Did You Catch All Of Pixar Animation's 'Inside Out' Easter Eggs?
We hope you've had time to see Pixar Animation's latest triumph, Inside Out, in theaters. It's one of the best movies of the year so far, and there's a good chance it will make several year-end lists for being one of the best of 2015 overall.
And like every Pixar movie, it's ripe with easter eggs referencing all of the animation studio's movies that came before it. Some are hard to spot, others are pretty easy to see. And we run through as many of them as we can below. Check out all the Inside Out easter eggs after the jump!
Memories
The Pizza Planet Truck
It's not easy to spot, but director Pete Docter and co-director Del Carmen say that the Pizza Planet truck can be seen three times throughout Inside Out. More than likely, it can be spotted in one of the memory orbs inside Riley's mind, but there's plenty of automobiles in San Francisco, so the Pizza Planet truck may be among them. It's just a shame they couldn't stop San Francisco from ruining pizza.
For the Birds
The Good Dinosaur
Riley and her family make a quick stop to take some photos of dinosaur statues on the side of the road, and one of those prehistoric creatures just so happens to be from Pixar's upcoming movie The Good Dinosaur (watch the teaser trailer right here).
Oui, Chef
A113
This number makes an appearance in every single Pixar movie as a reference to the CalArts animation classroom where brilliant minds like Pete Docter and John Lasster got their start. In Inside Out, Riley's classroom is A113, and she also passes by the same number as graffiti spray-painted on a building when she's running away. Also, the train car that Bing Bong, Joy and Sadness hop on is 113.
A Familiar Playground
Around the World
La Luna
Another easter egg in Riley's classroom references another one of Pixar's short films as a poster features the star-fishing boy from La Luna.
Pete Docter is Angry
Chinese Takeout
Hey, Ted
Imagination Land Board Games
Imagination Land has a whole bunch of random stuff inside of it, but there's one particular board game that directly references another Pixar movie. There's a box for a game called Find Me! and right on the box is a fish that looks exactly like little Nemo from Finding Nemo. There's also a game called Dinosaur World that could reference The Good Dinosaur, but it's less of a direct reference.
Forget it Jake, It's Chinatown
It's an easy joke for cinephiles to get, but in case you didn't get it, here's the deal. Towards the end of the movie, two cops are questioning the cloud woman whose husband was blown away by Joy, Sadness and Bing Bong in Imagination Land. When they come busting through town again, one of the cops gets worked up about it, but the other says, "Forget it, Jake. It's Cloudtown." That's a variation on the same quote about the corrupt Chinatown from the iconic film noir appropriately called, Chinatown.
The Haunted Mansion
Having a Ball
John Ratzenberger
One of Pixar's good luck charms, John Ratzenberger continues his streak by voicing Fritz, one of the workers who helps rebuild the control panel in Riley's Headquarters at the very end of the movie.
Skull and Camouflage Shirts
Vertigo
The Tri-County Area
Cars
Hockey Rink or Museum?
Jangles the Clown
Dead Mouse
Finally, this is kind of a twisted easter egg. But when Riley and her family arrive in their new San Francisco apartment, there's a dead rat in the middle of the floor. It's sad to think about, but the rat looks a lot like the little chef Remy from Ratatouille. I'm sure even little kids immediately thought of Remy when they saw that dead rat. Maybe there's bugs from A Bug's Life in there too.
That's all the easter eggs we could round up. Thanks to Yahoo, ScreenRant, The Disney Blog, Pixar Post, Hypable and Inquisitr for offering additional insight into the easter eggs of Inside Out. There's likely many more than this that we'll learn about once we start seeing the movie over and over again, but this is a pretty good start. Let us know what we missed in the comments!
