Will There Be A Season 3 Of The Cleaning Lady?
Fox has renewed "The Cleaning Lady" for a third season (via The Hollywood Reporter), just seven weeks after the show premiered its second. Behind the scenes, it will mark a new chapter for the series as Jeanine Renshaw ("In The Dark," "Good Girls") will join creator Miranda Kwok as co-showrunner, helming the crime drama series alongside her. Renshaw is replacing Melissa Carter, who is exiting the show's creative team to work on her overall deal, in development at Warner Bros.
"The Cleaning Lady" is based on "La Chica Que Limpia," an Argentine series about a woman named Rosa whose life is changed following a murder at the boxing gym she works as a cleaning lady. The American adaptation, described by the network as "a story of empowerment, resilience and the human spirit that asks us all if the ends justify the means," is led by French-Camobdian actress Élodie Yung ("Daredevil") and follows her character Thony De La Rosa.
Rosa is a Cambodian-born ex-surgeon from the Philippines who finds herself living in the United States on an expired visa. Since Rosa does not have the qualifications to continue working in medicine or the means to acquire a license, she makes a living as a cleaning lady to provide for her young son Luca. Soon, the character finds herself as the witness to a gruesome crime and is pulled into the criminal underworld — which changes her life for better and for worse. And now her story will continue, with a third season officially in the works.
Say hello to season 3
With a family's immigration crisis at the center of its narrative, "The Cleaning Lady" illustrates how far a mother will go to safeguard her child and their interests. It tackles the struggles undocumented immigrants face trying to build a life in a foreign nation, as they must set aside their past achievements, to make a new home. The character drama also stars Adan Canton, Oliver Hudson, twins Sebastien and Valentino LaSalle, and "Lost" star Naveen Andrews, as well as Martha Millan.
"After two heart-pounding seasons, we're thrilled with how audiences have latched on to this incredible story," Michael Thorn, president of scripted programming for Fox Entertainment, shared in a prepared statement alongside the renewal announcement. "The cast, led by the incomparable Élodie Yung, along with our brilliant creative team and our partners at Warner Bros. Television have expertly crafted a highly compelling, emotionally-driven show that gives a perspective you don't often see on television."
Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group said, "'The Cleaning Lady' is a gripping and masterful tale of a mother who will do anything for her child ...I am thrilled that we get to continue to explore Thony's world in a third season. We are excited about Jeannine Renshaw joining the creative team, and I can't wait for audiences to see what Miranda and Jeannine have in store for season three."
